About the Job
Amazon launched the Generative AI Innovation Center (GenAIIC) in June 2023 to assist AWS customers in accelerating the application of Generative AI for solving business and operational challenges, as well as to foster innovation within their organizations. The successful candidate will have a blend of technical expertise and customer-facing skills, allowing them to serve as the technical representative of AWS within our solution provider ecosystem and engage directly with end customers. This role demands the ability to conduct discussions with senior technical and management personnel, alongside the technical background to collaborate effectively with data scientists, research teams, and software developers. A strategic mindset regarding business, product, and technical issues is essential, as is a proven track record in technical team management, including hiring, developing, and retaining high-quality technical talent.

As part of AWS Sales, Marketing, and Global Services (SMGS), the role focuses on driving revenue, adoption, and growth from a diverse range of customers, from small- to mid-market accounts to large enterprises, including those in the public sector. The AWS Global Support team prides itself on providing world-class support critical to customer success and collaborates with a global array of clients building mission-critical applications on AWS services.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Work directly with customers to promote adoption and shape the future of emergent technologies by understanding business challenges and advising on the implementation of generative AI solutions while fostering long-term relationships with key accounts.
  • Lead the development of an industry-leading generative AI delivery team by coaching specialist personnel on best practices and crafting value-driven architectures of varying complexity.
  • Expand the current team by hiring, onboarding, training, and developing new scientists, architects, and engineers from various sources.
  • Identify opportunities for creating reusable technical assets based on recurring customer needs.
  • Provide market and customer feedback to Product and Engineering teams to inform product direction.
  • Drive revenue growth across a diverse customer base.
  • Serve as a thought leader, driving value creation through technical solutions, team growth, and specific customer engagements.
  • Deliver briefings and deep dive sessions to customers, guiding them on adoption patterns and pathways to production.

About the Team
The GenAIIC offers the chance to innovate within a fast-paced setting, contributing to projects and technologies that are transformative in both cloud and device environments. As a Data Science Manager in GenAIIC, you will collaborate with technology and business teams to develop new generative AI solutions that provide value to our clients. You will oversee a team of data scientists, deep learning architects, and ML engineers to build generative AI models and pipelines, delivering advanced solutions for customers’ business and mission challenges.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics/statistics, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Several years of experience with data querying languages (SQL), scripting languages (Python), or statistical/mathematical software (R, SAS, Matlab).
  • Several years of technical management experience, including at least one year in a customer-facing or consulting environment.
  • Proficiency in algorithms, data structures, numerical optimization, data mining, and machine learning methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in addressing fairness in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • Hands-on experience with deep learning architectures (CNN, RNN, LSTM, Transformer).
  • Advanced degree (PhD or Masters) in computer science, engineering, mathematics, operations research, or a quantitative field.
  • Direct experience in training and fine-tuning Large Language Models (LLMs).
  • Extensive knowledge of generative AI practices and deployment of Large Foundational Models.
  • Familiarity with AWS AI/ML services.
  • Previous experience as a customer-facing field development manager.
