Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems, best known for its platform, Ubuntu. We engage with global enterprise and technology markets, focusing on cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are hiring a Developer Relations Engineer to join our newly formed Developer Relations team, which aims to connect with open-source communities and developer-centric organizations.

The Developer Relations Engineer will be a technical expert, strategist, and communicator who empathizes deeply with developers. This role combines engineering skills with diplomacy, fostering a feedback loop that shapes our offerings. We are looking for a problem-solver and inventor who understands user needs and commands a passion for adapting tools effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to product management team meetings
  • Maintain ongoing conversations with developer community members
  • Engage in discussions on various platforms including IRC, social media, and product forums
  • Collaborate across teams within Canonical
  • Solve specific technical problems identified by users or colleagues
  • Contribute to technical documentation and create technical articles, presentations, or workshops
  • Identify new opportunities to enhance the developer experience
  • Present at conferences, meetups, or technical events

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field, or an impressive narrative about an alternative path
  • Demonstrated engagement in open-source software as a developer
  • Well-organized, self-starting individual with the ability to meet deadlines and commitments
  • Experience with Linux software packaging (deb, rpm, or snap)
  • Strong communicator and effective speaker, able to build trust and relationships
  • Willingness to travel for company events and industry gatherings, approximately twice a year

Language Requirements: English proficiency is assumed; additional language skills may be beneficial.
