About the Job:
Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, best known for its platform, Ubuntu. We are a pioneer in global distributed collaboration, with a focus on breakthrough enterprise initiatives, including public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are hiring an Embedded Linux Field Engineering Manager to lead a regionally-focused team of Field Engineers in Presales and Professional Services activities. This role will involve assisting customers with solution architecture, design, and delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of Field Engineers in areas of Presales and Professional Services.
  • Solve customer problems by promoting our technologies and being a trusted advisor.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback to team members.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators.
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes.
  • Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university.
  • Extensive embedded Linux experience, preferably with Yocto or similar.
  • Proficiency in Linux, with experience in Debian or Ubuntu preferred.
  • Fluency in at least one programming language such as Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust.
  • Ability to manage a small team.
  • Experience with customer engagements.
  • Professional written and spoken English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a result-oriented mindset.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with RTOS.
  • Proficiency in additional programming languages or human languages.
  • Previous experience in a remote-first, diverse, distributed company.

Work Conditions:

  • Remote role within one of the three Geographical areas: Americas, EMEA, or APAC.
  • Distributed work environment with team sprints in person twice a year.
