The AppArmor team's primary responsibility is to develop security features for AppArmor, a security module protecting Ubuntu users by providing mandatory access control to confine programs and limit their access to system resources. In this role, you will enhance the security of millions of users, engaging directly with the community and customers while coordinating across multiple engineering teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers (graduate to senior levels)
  • Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback
  • Identify and measure team health indicators
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes
  • Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
  • Develop and evangelize strong engineering and organizational practices
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects
  • Collaborate as part of the security engineering leadership team

Requirements:

  • An exceptional academic track record (high school and university)
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a compelling alternative path
  • Strong drive with a track record of exceeding expectations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Passion for developing people and a proven track record in this area
  • Organized and able to ensure timely, high-quality results
  • Professional demeanor when interacting with colleagues and partners
  • Proficiency in C and a good understanding of Linux kernel development
  • Experience with Linux Security Modules
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about software and application security
  • Solid experience in an agile development environment
  • Commitment to continual learning
  • Ability to build trust and relationships

Optional Skills:

  • Understanding of container/packaging formats
