Position

Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager as part of its general track for first-level engineering management positions. We are committed to transforming the tech sector through open source, making it easier, more reliable, and more secure for deployment and development. Our goal is to be the provider of 'most software to most companies'.

The role of an Engineering Manager involves leading and developing a diverse team of engineers, fostering their growth and ensuring high-quality results. They are expected to contribute code, shape the team's direction, and maintain expectations of delivery. Responsibilities include coaching and mentoring team members, developing and evangelizing engineering practices, and effectively representing the team and product to stakeholders.

Candidates should be willing to participate in management training to align with team behaviors and standards. Open roles exist across various engineering domains including Python, Golang, C, C++, Rust, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and more.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers, from graduate to senior levels
  • Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes
  • Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
  • Collaborate actively with other leaders in the organization on goals and projects

What We're Looking For:

  • An exceptional academic background in Computer Science or STEM
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Experience in leading, coaching, and mentoring software developers
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet commitments
  • Passion for software development and continuous learning
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events (up to two weeks each)
