Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Teams meet two to four times a year in various locations around the world to align on strategy and execution.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and develop a team of engineers, ranging from graduates to seniors, while working remotely in a single major time zone. You will be responsible for line management, career guidance, coaching, mentoring, and providing feedback to foster career development. Your role will include identifying team health indicators, implementing disciplined engineering processes, and representing your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers.

You will work as part of a leadership team, collaborating with other leaders to ensure your team delivers high-quality results punctually. Candidates with expertise in various engineering domains, including Python, Golang, C/C++/Rust, data infrastructure, web technologies, and product security are encouraged to apply.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling alternative narrative.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proven experience in leading, coaching, and mentoring software developers.
  • Organised, self-starting, and able to deliver on schedule.
  • Passionate about software development with solid experience in agile environments.

Additional Skills Valued:

  • Experience in a developer advocacy or community role.
  • Ops and system administration experience.
  • Performance engineering and security experience.
