Position

This global leadership role in cybersecurity involves managing the Security Operations (SecOps) team at Canonical. The team is responsible for the design, implementation, and evolution of Canonical's security practices, techniques, tools, systems, and policies. They own the strategy and practices necessary to secure Canonical’s data, internal infrastructure, and build processes, ensuring the integrity of infrastructure and product deployments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Hiring and mentoring a team of skilled technical security professionals.
  • Defining Canonical's SecOps security standards and playbooks.
  • Owning the architecture and design of the Security Operations Center (SOC).
  • Analyzing and improving Canonical’s security architecture.
  • Evaluating, selecting, and implementing new security tools and practices.
  • Guiding the remediation of security threats and cyber attacks.
  • Contributing to open source threat intelligence initiatives.
  • Developing and delivering SecOps learning and development materials.
  • Tracking and measuring SecOps KPIs within the company's agile framework.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Proven track record of mitigating threats from advanced threat actors and nation-state threats.
  • Expertise in SOC architecture and design, including strategies for logging, firewalls, and network segmentation.
  • In-depth understanding of Linux security and incident response playbooks.
  • Experience with security architecture, market-leading security tools, and security risk management frameworks such as NIST CSF.
  • Strong academic background in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling alternative narrative.
  • Excellent business English writing and presentation skills.

Optional Qualifications:

  • Experience in offensive or defensive security teams with hands-on capabilities.
  • Familiarity with open source security tools and security standards such as ISO 27001, and management of corporate endpoints.

Language Requirements:

  • Excellent proficiency in business English is essential.
