About the Job:
This is an opportunity for an entry-level technologist with a passion for Linux and Customer Success to build a career with Canonical and support the technical needs of customers and Canonical staff. As a Linux Desktop Support Associate, you will deliver an outstanding technical support experience to employees and customers. You will be responsible for managing cases from problem qualification to resolution, and, when necessary, collaborating with senior engineers.

Your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Working from your remote home office to provide technical support for employees.
  • Providing technical onboarding support for new employees.
  • Offering technical and infrastructure support during international events.
  • Taking ownership of new cases via telephone, email, and web.
  • Acting as an internal customer advocate and ensuring timely updates.
  • Maintaining high customer satisfaction according to Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Contributing to a common knowledge base and keeping it updated.
  • Drafting and distributing technical notices for internal and external communication.
  • Prioritizing tasks based on urgency and importance.
  • Continuously learning about new products and services.
  • Maintaining communication with team members locally and remotely.
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance service quality.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or equivalent four-year degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering).
  • Experience in a Linux-based environment through academics or work experience.
  • Proficiency in the installation, troubleshooting, and basic configuration of recent Ubuntu Desktop releases.
  • Basic desktop Linux usage skills (including command line tools).
  • Familiarity with Google applications (Gmail, Google Calendar) and Single Sign-On.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.

Additional Skills (preferred):

  • Some knowledge of programming (e.g., bash, python, Perl, Ruby, Javascript).
  • Customer support experience is a plus.
