About the Job:

This role is an opportunity for a hands-on, senior technologist with a passion for Linux to build a career with Canonical and drive success with those leveraging Ubuntu and open-source products. If you have experience in IT operations automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and a passion for technology, you will enjoy working with some of the best people in the industry at Canonical.

The IS team at Canonical supports and maintains all of Canonical's IT production services and is responsible for services used by over 60 million Ubuntu users. As a Senior SRE & Gitops Engineer, you will drive operations automation in both private and public clouds using open-source IaC software and development practices such as CI/CD pipelines.

You will improve Canonical products and the underlying open-source technologies by providing critical feedback to developers, submitting bugs, and collaborating with other teams within the company. This role entails close collaboration with the IS architect, designing and architecting services that IS can offer, and maintaining operational responsibility for all of Canonical's core services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of automation and GitOps within your team.
  • Collaborate with the IS architect to align solutions with the IS architecture vision.
  • Develop IaC practices and increase automation within IS.
  • Automate software operations for reusability and consistency across clouds.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot Canonical's core services, networks, and infrastructure.
  • Set up and use observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
  • Support globally distributed engineering, operations, and support teams.

Qualifications:

  • Modern view on hosting architecture driven by IaC.
  • Product mindset to develop products rather than just solutions.
  • Python software development experience on large projects.
  • Experience with Kubernetes or container orchestration systems.
  • Proven experience managing and deploying cloud infrastructure with code.
  • Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
  • Hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux servers.
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
  • Bachelor's degree or greater in computer science or a related field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English over various mediums.

What We Offer:

  • A competitive salary based on factors like location and experience.
  • Fully remote working environment.
  • Personal learning and development budget of $2,000 per annum.
  • Annual compensation review and recognition rewards.
  • Annual holiday leave and parental leave.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Opportunities for travel to meet colleagues at 'sprints'.
