We are seeking a Software Engineer - L3 Support to engage in a dynamic and exciting role focused on Linux-based infrastructure and applications. This position covers all layers of the stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN and Core networking), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and the open source applications running on top of these technologies.

This role offers an opportunity for a technologist with a passion for Linux and open source to build a career with Canonical. Successful candidates will need to demonstrate a good understanding of the open source software ecosystem, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to troubleshooting and resolving critical issues that affect technology used globally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, and Kubernetes.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities and develop bug fixes, backport patches, and collaborate on upstream contributions.
  • Review code produced by other engineers and demonstrate good technical judgment.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively and communicate clearly in a technical context.
  • Work from home with occasional international travel (up to 10% of work time) for team meetings, events, and conferences.

What We Are Looking For:

  • An exceptional academic track record and background in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • A drive to learn unfamiliar technology and tackle challenging issues.
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.

  • Passion for technology and collaboration with talented individuals.
  • Curiosity, flexibility, accountability, and a strong emphasis on soft skills.
  • An interest in, or willingness to learn about, technologies such as Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, and others.
