Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in various enterprise initiatives including public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are hiring a Software Engineer - L3 Support to work in a dynamic engineering role focusing on Linux-based infrastructure and applications.

This position requires you to work on various aspects of Ubuntu and the open source applications used by our large enterprise customers. Responsibilities include resolving complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software. You will maintain a close working relationship with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve customer issues related to the software stack.
  • Develop bug fixes, backport patches, and collaborate with upstream communities.
  • Review code produced by other engineers.
  • Participate in team discussions to improve processes and documentation.
  • Maintain clear, technical, and concise communications.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Python, Go, C, or C++.
  • A passion for learning and tackling difficult technology issues.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of work time for team meetings, events, and conferences.

Nice-to-have Skills:

  • Strong interest in Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, and distributed systems.
  • Excellent soft skills and a passion for technology.
