We are hiring a Software Engineer - L3 Support to work in a dynamic engineering role focused on Linux-based infrastructure and applications. This position involves all layers of the stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN, and Core networking), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and the open-source applications that run on top of them. This role challenges you to utilize the breadth of your engineering skills, assisting in troubleshooting and resolving critical issues that require upstream bug fixes.

In this role, you will:

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, or Kubernetes.
  • Maintain close working relationships with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities and develop bug fixes or backport patches.
  • Review code from other engineers.
  • Participate in team discussions to improve processes, tools, and documentation.
  • Work from home with travel internationally up to 10% of work time for team meetings, events, and conferences.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional academic track record, preferably in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Experience with Linux and open-source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • A strong willingness to learn unfamiliar technology and tackle challenging issues.
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Interest in Ubuntu Linux (kernel or userspace), Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, PostgreSQL, Mongo, Debian packaging, and distributed systems.
  • Strong soft skills including curiosity, flexibility, accountability, and self-motivation.
