About the Job: Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems for global enterprise and technology markets. We have a collaborative team of over 1200 colleagues across 75+ countries, with an emphasis on remote work and minimal office-based roles. Teams meet two to four times a year in various global locations to align on strategy and execution. As an engineering manager, you will lead a team responsible for building next-generation private cloud infrastructure, integrating technologies like KVM, Ceph, and SDN. You will oversee a team of engineers, helping them grow professionally while ensuring high-quality output. Your role will involve influencing team culture, facilitating technical delivery, and collaborating with various teams within Canonical. What You Will Focus On: - Lead a team of remote engineers. - Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and hands-on career development. - Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and stakeholders. - Advocate for modern software development practices. - Participate in the engineering process via code and architectural review. - Engage with teams at Canonical, the open-source community, and external partners. - Work from home with the opportunity for global travel (4 to 6 weeks per year). What We Are Looking For: - Strong understanding of modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes. - Proven ability to develop and grow team members. - Focus on delivering high-quality software timely. - Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field. - Strong written and verbal technical communication skills. - Experience programming in C and/or Go. Work Conditions: - Remote position available primarily in EMEA and the Americas. - Distributed work environment with bi-annual team sprints. - Global travel commitments for internal and external events.
