Position

Drive the future of collaborative open-source development tooling as part of the Launchpad team. This is an opportunity for a motivated engineering manager with a passion for open-source software, Linux, and web services to join a distributed team. Launchpad is a robust platform for managing open-source development projects, including code hosting and review, bug tracking, package building, and translations. It provides essential development infrastructure for major projects such as Ubuntu.

As an engineering manager, your primary responsibility is the growth and support of your team. You will ensure they are developing as engineers, doing valuable work, and having a great time at Canonical. We seek technical leadership with a solid background in software development to challenge and grow team members. You will influence the culture, facilitate technical delivery, and collaborate with your team on strategy and execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Grow and lead a team of engineers in your region.
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
  • Apply sound engineering principles and contribute to the team's goals.
  • Maintain productive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, management, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team and community.
  • Lead the ongoing development of Launchpad.
  • Advocate for modern, agile software development practices.
  • Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture.

Work Conditions:

  • Remote work with international travel up to 6 weeks per year for events.
  • Candidates expected to be located within the EMEA region.

Who You Are:

  • Experience leading a distributed team delivering features and managing production services at scale.
  • Passionate about mentoring, developing, and growing people with a track record of success.
  • Knowledgeable about technology with experience in delivering high-quality software.
  • Experienced in designing and evolving complex distributed systems.
  • Possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid experience working in an agile development environment.
