About the Job:
Lead our effort to get Ubuntu fit for mission-critical environments like automotive, aerospace, industrial robotics, and other highly regulated uses. Ubuntu is the most widely used Linux in the enterprise, for developers, and at home. We work to enable innovation in all sectors, serving as a gateway to the world of open source. People appreciate the ease of use and low cost that we bring to enterprise Linux, and we now aim to invest in additional processes, engineering, tools, and analysis to enable the creation of mission-critical systems that meet regulatory requirements using Ubuntu.

Canonical is seeking a Development Lifecycle Engineer with a passion for engineering excellence and open source, along with experience in implementing an agile lifecycle release train across multiple products. This role will bridge Canonical’s open source engineering processes with regulated technology platform requirements related to compliance and certification. Your responsibilities will include enhancing delivery quality, security, and developer experience, as well as fostering a positive culture and work environment.

You will collaborate with engineering stakeholders to define and implement continuous improvement processes and qualification requirements that support engineering quality standards. Establishing strategic relations with external working groups, committees, and partners will also be part of your duties, reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering Excellence.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Strong experience in engineering and process management in an agile environment.
  • Proven track record in developing and growing teams.
  • Experience with compliance and certification efforts, including knowledge of industry standards like ISO IEC 9001, 25010, and 15504 / SPICE.
  • Background in successful open source projects showcasing demonstrated engineering processes.

Additional Skills That May Be Beneficial:

  • Background as a software developer.
  • Experience in establishing product engineering development metrics and KPIs.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
