About the Job:
The Data Governance Manager is responsible for establishing and enforcing policies and standards for data management to ensure consistency and accuracy across the organization. This role requires a combination of technical skills in data management systems, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance, as well as strong leadership capabilities to manage data stewardship and promote a culture of data literacy.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Develop and Implement Data Governance Strategy: Create and enforce policies and standards for data management.
- Data Quality Management: Ensure data accuracy, completeness, reliability, and timeliness, identifying and resolving quality issues through continuous monitoring.
- Data Stewardship: Establish a network of data stewards in various departments to maintain high-quality data and adherence to governance protocols.
- Compliance & Security: Ensure data handling practices meet internal governance policies and regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, DAMA).
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with IT, legal, compliance, and business units to define and prioritize data governance initiatives.
- Training & Awareness: Develop training programs to promote data governance principles and accountability among employees.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare reports on data governance activities, metrics on data quality and compliance, and communicate to senior management.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with data misuse or non-compliance.
Technical Skillset:
- Data Management Systems & Tools: Experience with data governance platforms (e.g., Collibra, Informatica) and data management tools (e.g., SQL, Power BI, Tableau).
- Data Quality & Metadata Management: Knowledge of tools and processes for data profiling, cleansing, metadata management, and lineage tracking.
- Master Data Management (MDM): Experience with MDM solutions for sustaining consistent data across departments.
- Data Privacy & Security Tools: Familiarity with privacy tools (e.g., anonymization) and security measures (e.g., encryption).
- Data Architecture Knowledge: Understanding of data modeling and modern data architectures, including cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field; Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CDMP, DAMA) preferred.
- Experience: 10+ years in data management or governance, including 4 years in a managerial position.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience in industries with complex data environments (e.g., finance, healthcare) preferred.
- Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA) and their implications.
