About the Job
The Network Operations Centre (NOC) Engineer is a seasoned subject matter expert responsible for monitoring and maintaining the Global IP Network within our Network Operations Center (NOC). This role supports tier 1 Global Internet Backbone operations by managing transit and peering connections across various core and aggregation routers.
Key Responsibilities
- Track, own, resolve, and document all associated customer and organizational backbone issues.
- Monitor the customers’ network, infrastructure, servers, and applications using SNMP monitoring software and various in-house tools.
- Troubleshoot and resolve routing/physical layer issues for customers, peers, and network infrastructure.
- Interface with other operation centers for issue escalation and resolution.
- Manage vendor tickets related to hardware and software issues.
- Perform troubleshooting and fault isolation.
- Act as a technical escalation point for internal NOC teams, customers, and other business areas.
- Oversee vendor-related issues and contribute to operationalizing new devices/services/platforms, including documentation and best practices.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
Knowledge and Attributes
- Excellent planning, analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Good knowledge of the ITIL framework.
- Experience with IT infrastructure monitoring tools.
- Effective, timely, professional, and courteous communication skills.
- Seasoned background in troubleshooting OSI Layers 1, 2, and 3.
- Knowledge of routing protocols, including BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, and LDP.
- Ability to make critical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Skills in multitasking and leading effectively under pressure.
- Proficient in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco and Juniper routers.
- Good knowledge of Windows/Linux servers/VMs monitoring and initial troubleshooting.
- Proven ability to work accurately with attention to detail.
Academic Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Seasoned experience in network operations and IT infrastructure operations, in similar roles.
