Data Center Technician

As a Microsoft Data Center Technician (DCT), you will stage, set up, and perform hardware deployments. You will also troubleshoot and diagnose equipment and perform hardware decommissions for simple changes and refreshes according to Standard Operating Procedures. This role provides an opportunity to deepen your understanding of Data Center processes, develop mentoring skills by guiding peers, and familiarize yourself with security and data management procedures.

You will play a key role in delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services, including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. The Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team focuses on employee development, offering various training and growth opportunities.

Responsibilities:

• Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting, quickly identifying issues and replacing faulty components with minimal disruption.
• Conduct post-execution quality checks to verify that grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling are correctly set up according to safety protocols and deployment standards.
• Decommission hardware for simple changes and refreshes following standard procedures with minimal guidance.
• Communicate, report, and escalate incidents to management and engineering specialists.
• Assist other technicians in complex tasks and contribute to a positive team environment.
• Complete required training aligned to the role and workload; observe experienced technicians for hands-on experience.
• Take accountability for service quality and user experience, embodying company culture and values.

Qualifications:
Required:

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
• 1+ years of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
• Ability to work shifts, including non-standard hours (evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays).
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements.

Preferred:

• 2+ years of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
• Relevant certifications: CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).
