Presight is seeking an experienced professional for the position of Senior Engineer - Database Administration (DBA). This role is crucial for administering a large and complex production database environment, ensuring the 24/7 operation of mission-critical applications. The DBA will provide centralized database administration, troubleshooting, and system-level support, while optimizing database architecture and security.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring database availability 24/7 for mission-critical applications.
- Proactively managing and maintaining security standards and controls, including database security and encryption.
- Optimizing and simplifying database architecture.
- Monitoring performance and capacity of the database.
- Executing data migration jobs and scripts as required.
- Collaborating with the infrastructure team on hardware sizing for the database.
- Supporting and collaborating with product developers and contributing to disaster recovery planning.
- Creating a reliable backup strategy and overseeing backups, replication, and failovers.
- Documenting database policies, procedures, and standards.
- Performing maintenance operations on Oracle and SQL servers and databases for efficient program operations.
- Conducting database backups and restorations, and recovering corrupted databases.
- Evaluating and recommending new database technologies.
- Preparing written materials for documenting activities and conveying information.
- Directing technical support interactions with Oracle Corporation, including patch management and version control.
- Complying with policies in Quality Health Safety and Environment, Business Continuity, Information Security, Privacy, and Compliance Management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and a minimum of 6 years of experience as DBA.
- Ideally an Oracle Certified DB Professional (OCP) with over 6 years of experience in Oracle in a lead role.
- Proficient in MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and related replication tools.
- Experience with advanced database platform features (clustering, encryption, ETL, replication) for at least 2 years.
- Experience in database design, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
- Extensive UNIX/LINUX experience.
- Hands-on experience with Oracle High Availability and replication technologies (Data Guard, RMAN, etc.).
- Strong practical experience in a production RAC environment and knowledge in Shell scripting and Python.
- Experience with IBM DB2 is a plus.
