Position

This is an opportunity to lead a Professional Services team, also known as Field Engineering, at Canonical. You will help customers understand and implement Canonical's open source solutions in public clouds and their own data centers. The role spans a range of cloud offerings, including Ubuntu, virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, and sophisticated open source solutions such as MLops platforms and data platforms. As we expand into new industries like telecom, finance, healthcare, and media, you will design and develop new open source solutions to meet client needs.

Engineering Managers at Canonical are expected to be outstanding engineers who can troubleshoot technical issues and engage in technical presales conversations with customers. You will contribute to project delivery while also shaping your team's direction and focus.

As a Cloud Professional Services Manager, you will oversee a team of cloud solutions architects, managing and providing career guidance while driving collaboration with other teams and customers. Your responsibilities will include participating in technical presales to help achieve departmental goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers, from graduate to senior levels.
  • Work remotely within a single major time zone.
  • Coach and mentor team members, offering career development feedback.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators and implement disciplined engineering processes.
  • Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Develop and evangelize excellent engineering and organizational practices.
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.
  • Collaborate with other leaders as part of the leadership team.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Openstack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph).
  • Practical knowledge of Linux and networking.
  • Experience in technical presales.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to develop and grow team members.
  • Organized and capable of ensuring timely, high-quality results.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% for internal company events, external tech events, and customer meetings.
  • Exceptional academic record from high school and preferably university.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge of a second language (Spanish or French preferred).
  • Python knowledge.
  • Experience collaborating with external partners and internal teams.
