About the job
Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely utilized in groundbreaking initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Our customers include top public cloud and silicon providers, as well as industry leaders across various sectors. Canonical upholds a pioneering spirit through global distributed collaboration, with over 1,100 colleagues in more than 75 countries, very few traditional office roles, and biannual in-person team meetings at interesting locations worldwide.

We are hiring a Cloud Support Engineer to deliver an outstanding technical support experience on the complete cloud technical stack at Canonical. This role combines your Linux support, software engineering skills, and general knowledge of the full stack—from hardware to application, networking, and open source technologies—to help customers maximize their solutions from Canonical. Our team provides exceptional technical support and engineering solutions concerning everything open source, from Ubuntu Server and Desktop to OpenStack and Kubernetes. This is an exceptional opportunity for an open-source technologist who thrives in problem-solving under pressure.

Location
This role is office-based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Candidates must be based there or have the ability to relocate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply knowledge of Linux virtualization using Libvirt/KVM, containers, and Kubernetes to support customized solutions for customers.
  • Serve as the technical authority, demonstrating experience with popular open source software such as PostgreSQL, Corosync/Pacemaker, MongoDB, MySQL, and Apache.
  • Provide advice on deployed architecture, implement solutions for complex problems, and guide customers in successful data-center infrastructure operations.
  • Communicate regularly with customer teams about ongoing issues.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Open source development or scripting experience.
  • Professional experience with OpenStack is a strong plus.
  • Professional experience with Kubernetes and/or Ceph.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent communication skills and extensive experience in customer-facing roles.
  • High motivation, ability to multi-task, and reliable follow-up on commitments.
  • Experience with or a willingness to learn new technologies, including LXD, Snaps, MAAS, Juju, and Ubuntu.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

If you are passionate about the latest open source technologies, technical support, and cloud-native development, particularly in data-center technologies like OpenStack and Kubernetes, you will find the Cloud Support Engineer role at Canonical to be a fulfilling opportunity.

What we offer:
We base compensation on geographical location, experience, and performance, revisiting it annually to recognize outstanding contributions. In addition to base pay, we offer performance-driven bonuses or commissions, a personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year, and other benefits that reflect our values. Our distributed work environment includes biannual team sprints, recognition rewards, annual leave, maternity and paternity leave, an Employee Assistance Programme, and opportunities to travel and meet colleagues.

About Canonical:
Canonical is at the forefront of the global move to open source, publishing Ubuntu, one of the most significant open-source projects and the platform for AI, IoT, and the cloud. We prioritize recruiting globally and maintain high standards for all team members. With a remote-first approach, we value skills over location, making us a dynamic workplace where innovation thrives. We are proud to foster an inclusive environment, free from discrimination, where diversity of experience and perspective enhances the work environment and product quality.
