The Security Engineer L1 is an entry-level subject matter expert, tasked with facilitating problem resolution and mentoring within the overall team. This role involves operational security tasks such as performance and availability monitoring, log monitoring, security incident detection and response, security event reporting, and content maintenance (tuning). The Security Engineer L1 is responsible for detecting and monitoring escalated threats and suspicious activity affecting the organization's technology domain, including servers, networks, and all infrastructure that supports production applications and development environments.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a 24/7 team on rotational shifts.
- Participate in Platform and Content Engineering handling tunings, stakeholder requests, escalations, reporting, and training.
- Administer the organization's security tools to gather security logs from the environment.
- Manage the lifecycle of supported security tools/technologies, including Break-fix, Patching, and Live updates.
- Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and notify stakeholders regarding log flow/log format issues.
- Document best practices and identify opportunities for automation to aid the incident response team.
- Perform security incident handling and response regarding various vectors, including End Point Protection, Enterprise Detection and Response tools, attack analysis, malware analysis, network forensics, and computer forensics.
Knowledge and Attributes:
- Entry-level knowledge of implementation and monitoring of any SIEM or security tools/technologies.
- Entry-level knowledge of security architecture, with experience across different security technologies.
- Customer service-oriented with pro-active thinking.
- Strong problem-solving ability, highly driven, and self-organized.
- Excellent attention to detail with good analytical and logical thinking skills.
- Exceptional spoken and written communication prowess.
- Team player with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and stakeholders.
Academic Qualifications and Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Technology or a related field.
- Relevant networking certifications preferred (e.g., CCNA, JNCIA, ACCA, PCNSA, CCSA).
- Relevant security certifications (e.g., AZ-500, SC-200, Security+, CEH) are an added advantage.
Required Experience:
- Entry-level experience in security technologies such as Firewalls, IPS, IDS, Proxy, etc.
- Experience in technical support for clients.
- Experience in diagnosis and troubleshooting.
- Remote support experience in Security Technologies.
- Familiarity with SOC/CSIRT Operations and handling security incidents end to end.
- Entry-level experience in Security Engineering.
