Presight is looking for an experienced professional Senior Engineer - Database Administration (DBA) with the technical skills and knowledge necessary to manage a large, complex production database environment. You will play a crucial role in performing centralized database administration for multiple databases, troubleshooting issues, and providing expert guidance to ensure 24/7 operation of mission-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure database availability 24/7 for mission-critical applications.
- Proactively manage and maintain security standards and controls; implement and maintain database security and encryption.
- Optimize and simplify database architecture.
- Oversee performance and capacity monitoring aspects of the database.
- Execute data migration jobs and scripts as required.
- Assist the infrastructure team in sizing hardware used for the database.
- Collaborate with product developers and contribute to the creation and maintenance of disaster recovery plans.
- Develop a reliable backup strategy; oversee backup, clustering, mirroring, replication, and failover.
- Document database policies, procedures, and standards.
- Conduct performance testing and evaluation to ensure data security, privacy, and integrity.
- Identify bottlenecks and deadlock issues; ensure SLAs and operational KPIs are met.
- Perform maintenance operations on Oracle and SQL servers and databases.
- Evaluate and recommend new database technologies.
- Manage backup and recovery plans; recover corrupted databases.
- Interface with Oracle Corporation for technical support, including patch management and version control.
- Comply with policies and procedures related to Quality Health Safety and Environment (QHSE), Business Continuity, Information Security, and Governance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with a minimum of 6 years of experience as a DBA.
- Ideally, Oracle Certified DB Professional (OCP) with over 6 years of experience with Oracle, in a lead role.
- Good knowledge of MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and native replication tools.
- Minimum of two years of experience administering advanced database platform features (e.g., clustering, encryption, ETL, replication).
- Experience should include database design, capacity planning, performance tuning, data partitioning, backup and recovery, and managing schemas.
- Extensive UNIX/Linux experience; familiarity with Oracle HA and replication.
- Strong practical experience with Oracle in a production RAC (ASM) environment, including the latest versions and technologies.
- Proficiency in shell scripting and Python, as well as hands-on experience with IBM DB2.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a performance-driven, adaptive environment.
