The CNN International team is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to lead development and operational support for the CNN International Digital Experience. This is a great opportunity for an individual that is passionate about delivering online news and information globally. As the Staff Software Engineer, you will assume a technical leadership role on the team and work with Product, Design, and Engineers alike to deliver on product initiatives and operational execution. Your responsibilities include leading technical direction, discovery, execution, and delivery of new initiatives, providing operational support for solutions in production, and collaborating with other teams at CNN to integrate shared tools and features.
Role Accountabilities
- Leads technical direction, discovery, execution, and delivery of new initiatives and provides operational support for solutions in production.
- Experienced with Agile and high-level planning, roadmaps, and sprint planning processes.
- Communicate effectively and facilitate meetings for collaboration efforts with other internal stakeholders.
- Partner and collaborate with other teams at CNN to integrate shared tools and features.
- Contribute to documentation, peer reviews, and code quality efforts across the platform.
- Mentor other engineers on the team and support a growth Engineering culture.
- Provide on-call support.
- Comfortable giving demos of work and explaining technical details and requirements across teams.
- Align with the WBD Guiding Principles and contribute to improving the culture both from an interpersonal level and from a code improvement standpoint.
Qualifications and Experience
- Full stack development experience, including coding abilities with JavaScript, Node, AWS, Python, PHP, HTML/Handlebars, CSS/Sass.
- Experience building, testing, shipping, and maintaining highly performant consumer applications.
- Understanding of engineering best practices for Web Vitals, Performance, Analytics, and Accessibility.
- Language skills – spoken and written fluent Arabic and English. Other languages are a bonus: Spanish, French, German, Mandarin, and Hindi.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, and experience in effectively communicating with a wide range of technical and non-technical job functions within an organization.
- Nice to haves: Experience with Ad Technology and integrating services / SDKs, knowledge of Operations, CI/CD, and DevOps, A|B testing and instrumentation experience, experience with News, Media, and Entertainment Industries, experience with WordPress and Drupal platforms.
