Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, notably known for Ubuntu, utilized in various enterprise initiatives including public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. The Developer Relations Engineer will join a new Developer Relations team aimed at engaging with open source communities and developer-centric organizations.

The role requires a technical expert, strategist, and communicator, embodying deep empathy for developers. Responsibilities include maintaining conversations with developer community members, collaborating across Canonical teams, contributing to technical documentation, and presenting at technical events.

Location: Remote (APAC and EMEA regions)
Work Conditions: Full-time, remote work with the ability to travel twice a year for company events (up to two weeks each) and additional travel for upstream and industry events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to product management team meetings.
  • Engage on platforms like IRC, social media, and product forums.
  • Solve technical problems identified by users or colleagues.
  • Produce technical articles, presentations, and workshops.
  • Identify new opportunities in the developer experience.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional academic track record (high school and university) or demonstrable experience in a technical field.
  • Experience as a developer engaged in open-source software.
  • Familiarity with Linux software packaging (deb, rpm, or snap).
  • Experience as a contributor to open-source communities.
  • Strong presentation and speaking skills.
  • Organizational and self-starting abilities with a professional demeanor.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience in developer advocacy or community roles.
  • Background in operations and system administration.
  • Performance engineering and security experience.
