Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets, renowned for its platform, Ubuntu. We seek a Senior Software Engineer to join our Web Engineering team, where you will drive best practices while leading technical conversations and initiatives. You will own the development of large projects, encouraging rigorous engineering processes, and mentoring fellow engineers. This role provides an opportunity to gain deep technical knowledge in innovative and fast-growing areas of technology, with a commitment to transparency, intellectual honesty, and teamwork.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify team priorities and lead initiatives for improvement.
  • Design, implement, test, and document software solutions.
  • Debug issues encountered by users.
  • Lead code and architectural reviews within the engineering process.
  • Contribute to technical documentation.
  • Deploy and operate services developed by the team.
  • Advocate for technical success of the products.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Strong technical quality standards with an eye for architectural solutions.
  • Excellent soft skills; you should be passionate, self-motivated, and organized.
  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM is preferred.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Professional written and spoken English is required.
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events for up to two weeks each.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with container technologies such as LXD, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of REST API design, development, and governance.
  • Prior performance engineering and security experience.

Work Conditions:
This is a full-time, remote position with the possibility to travel twice a year for company events. Canonical fosters a distributed work environment, with in-person team sprints occurring twice a year.
