Position

Canonical, a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems, is seeking a Senior/Staff/Lead Architect to drive the future of collaborative open-source development tooling as part of the Launchpad team. This role is ideal for an enthusiastic engineer passionate about open-source software, Linux, and web services. The Launchpad platform manages open-source development projects and provides essential infrastructure such as code hosting, bug tracking, and package building for major projects like Ubuntu. In this role, you'll balance maintaining business-critical services with expanding feature capabilities, working on projects such as improving development flows and modernizing the web UI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with distributed teams on design, architecture, and feature selection for solutions.
  • Write high-quality, API-first Python code with unit tests.
  • Debug issues and produce high-quality fixes.
  • Review code from other engineers.
  • Work remotely with global travel 2 to 4 times a year for events.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A strategic thinker with a passion for technology and problem-solving.
  • Curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable.
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Proficiency in delivering robust production code in Python.
  • Experience with maintaining and improving large web applications.
  • Understanding of databases, ORMs (PostgreSQL experience is a plus), data management, and data modeling.
  • Familiarity with Ubuntu as a development platform and an understanding of various software packaging systems, including Debian/Ubuntu packages.

Work Conditions:

  • Distributed work environment with in-person team sprints twice a year.
  • Full-time position.
  • Remote role with flexibility to work from home.

Language Requirements: Proficiency in English is expected.
