Position

At Canonical, our mission is to build a next-generation private cloud infrastructure using KVM, Ceph, and SDN technologies to create a reliable cloud for edge and core enterprise deployments. We are seeking an Engineering Manager with expertise in high-quality microservice architectures and high-performance team leadership, along with a deep familiarity with Linux kernel, virtualization, storage, and networking.

As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of remote engineers, coaching and mentoring them for professional and personal growth, and facilitating high-quality software delivery. A solid technical background is essential, along with experience in technical leadership, as you will play a crucial role in influencing team culture, developing strategies, and managing expectations with stakeholders.

What You Will Focus On:

  • Lead a team of remote engineers.
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
  • Advocate and advance modern software development practices.
  • Engage with teams at Canonical, the open source community, and partners.
  • Participate in the engineering process through code and architectural review.
  • Travel globally for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.

Requirements:

  • Understanding of modern Linux cloud computing technologies (networking, storage, containers, K8s).
  • Proven experience in developing and growing team members.
  • Strong focus on timely, high-quality software delivery.
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or similar field.
  • Proficient in written and verbal technical communication.
  • Experience programming in C and/or Go.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a full-time remote position.
  • Distributed work environment with in-person team sprints twice a year.
