Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting one of the following: operating systems and computer/server hardware or networking protocols. Experience performing component-level repairs on IT equipment. Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment and ability to exert yourself physically over extended periods of time, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling, and lifting. Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, holidays, and on shift-based schedule as required.

Preferred qualifications: Google IT Support Professional Certification. Candidates will typically have 2 years of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting one of the following: operating systems and computer/server hardware or networking protocols. Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment. Ability to collaborate and partner with teams to overcome challenges. Ability to adapt to changes in a dynamic work environment.

The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As a Data Center Technician, you will be part of a team that installs, configures, tests, troubleshoots, and maintains hardware and networking infrastructure to support the Google production of IT infrastructure. You'll participate in or lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans. A typical day involves installation of racks and machines, troubleshooting faulty infrastructure components, and working with infrastructure that is at the cutting-edge of computer technology.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve technical issues (e.g., hardware, software, application, operational, process) using different tools until final resolution, communicating with different stakeholders.
  • Lead troubleshooting and resolve critical or escalated technical issues regarding affected equipment.
  • Contribute to and lead efforts/projects in the deployment, maintenance, and support of the Google Cloud region (cloud data center) infrastructure.
  • Help test and troubleshoot new server hardware components and designs.
  • Configure and troubleshoot OS-related issues on server.
