The Security Engineer L1 is an entry-level subject matter expert responsible for facilitating problem resolution and mentoring for the overall team. This role involves performing operational security tasks such as performance and availability monitoring, log monitoring, security incident detection and response, security event reporting, and content maintenance (tuning). You will be responsible for detecting and monitoring escalated threats and suspicious activity affecting the organization's technology domain.
What You'll Be Doing
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a 24/7 team on rotational shifts.
- Participate in Platform and Content Engineering, handling tunings, stakeholder requests, escalations, reporting, and training.
- Administer the organization's security tools to gather security logs from the environment.
- Manage the lifecycle of supported security tools/technologies, including break-fix, patching, and live updates.
- Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and notify stakeholders about log flow/log format issues.
- Document best practices.
- Identify opportunities for automation to assist the incident response team.
- Handle security incidents from various vectors, including Endpoint Protection and Enterprise Detection and Response tools, attack analysis, malware analysis, network forensics, and more.
Knowledge and Attributes:
- Entry-level knowledge of implementation and monitoring of SIEM or security tools/technologies.
- Familiarity with security architecture and experience with various security technologies.
- Customer service orientation with proactive problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and logical thinking.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
- Team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
Academic Qualifications and Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Technology or related field.
- Preferred certifications in Networking (e.g., CCNA, JNCIA) and Security (e.g., AZ-500, SC-200, Security+, CEH).
Required Experience:
- Entry-level experience in security technologies like Firewall, IPS, IDS, Proxy, etc.
- Experience in technical support and troubleshooting.
- Basic experience providing remote support in security technologies.
- Exposure to SOC/CSIRT operations and handling security incidents.
